If you are looking for a positive, effective, and fair trainer for you and/or your horse, you need look no further than Adriane Alvord! I have been training with Adriane since the beginning of 2020 as a 20+ year hunter/jumper rider who was interested in dabbling in dressage to improve my skills on the flat. Less than a year later she got me hooked on dressage, and she helped me purchase a green 4yo PRE by the end of 2020. In the last three years we have qualified for and competed at regionals at training-third levels, qualified for musical freestyles up through third level, earned numerous blue ribbons and even a high score award, and earned our USDF Bronze Medal. She helped us do this all as a dressage newbie adult amateur on a young horse! I ultimately have my sights set on developing my horse into a Grand Prix horse and earning my gold medal, and Adriane will be there for us every step of the way.
Even more important than the competition accolades, however, is the fact that in Adriane’s program, the horse ALWAYS comes first. This is reflected both in her training philosophy and in the day-to-day care the horses receive on the farm. All horses have access to ample high quality hay and grain, and everyone gets at least 10-12 hours of turnout per day year-round. I feel beyond fortunate to have her in charge of both my horse’s care and training!

There are plenty of trainers who have had success in the show ring. Adriane certainly has. Lots of trainers will have ideas to help fix your problems—either with your riding or your horse. Adriane’s tool chest is extensive (and I think maybe deeper than most.) I can say, however, that after working with many trainers, that’s not enough. The journey needs to be fun! Dressage can be so mentally trying and emotionally frustrating as we try to make our circles round, our lines straight, and pursue the holy grail of the dressage pyramid. Adriane has a talent for making it not seem quite so oppressively difficult. I never leave a lesson feeling as though I am doing more wrong than right. (I have had lessons from other trainers that have ended in a personalexistential crisis.) It’s also important to be working with a trainer who is as ambitious for their students as they are for themselves. Adriane is not a trainer who will be content to see you stuck at training level forever. When I first started working with Adriane, I thought that if I could just get a flying change my life would be complete. I now have my silver medal and I’m on track for the gold. Adriane is the first trainer who made me think I could do that!

I joined Adriane Alvord Dressage in spring 2021 with no dressage horse and no dressage training since Pony Club over 50 years previously. Adriane quickly found me a perfect horse; a 5 year old PRE and she set to work to correct a lifetime of bad riding habits! Our first show season was a whir of new experiences, new language and acronyms, dressage tests, new barn friends and learning to drive a Ford 250 with a trailer. Fast forward three years and we’re heading out to compete this coming spring at third level. Thanks to Adriane, my PRE and I have both learned a multitude of new skills, competed at numerous shows within driving range, performed in quadrilles and pas de deux, and we’ve enjoyed every single moment. Adriane is a wonderfully calm and careful trainer, always ensuring that our horses’ wellbeing comes first. I heartily recommend Adriane Alvord Dressage!
